Duties

and Responsibilities

Org. Setting and Reporting

This internship position is located in the French Verbatim reporting Section, Meetings and Publishing Division, Department for general Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) in New York. The internship is for two (2) months from 12 February 2024 to 12 April 2024, with a possibility of extension, subject to the needs of the Department. The internship is UNPAID and designed to be full-time and in person but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of the Chief of the Verbatim Reporting Section/Service or the internship supervisor, as appropriate. Candidates are encouraged to highlight their specific skills and/or experience in their application. They are asked to do so carefully in order to enhance the value of the internship both for themselves and the receiving Section/Service.

Responsibilities

Interns will be responsible for the following duties: (a) translating into French, which must be the candidates ‘main language, verbatim records of meetings from one or more of the other official languages of the United Nations for training and other purposes and subject to review. The official languages are: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish; (b) performing other related duties as required.

Required Skills and Experience

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)

  -Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or

-Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation from an academic programme.Applicants who are unable to commence the internship within one year of graduation shall not be accepted.Candidates will be assessed based on their Personal History Profiles (PHP). Individual interviews and/or tests may be conducted for further assessment.

Languages

For the internship advertised, fluency in French, which must be the candidate’s main language, and knowledge of English, are required. Knowledge of a third official language would be an asset. The official languages of the United Nations are: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

Additional Information
